Upward Bound House Continues Their Important Work

Roque & Mark’s partnership with Upward Bound House (UBH) enters its seventh year as the charity organization gears up for its upcoming events. UBH is a local organization that works to end family homelessness in Los Angeles by providing housing and other supportive services. Since its inception, UBH has helped more than 2,900 families, including over 5,700 children, transition from homelessness to permanent housing.

Roque & Mark first began working with UBH after donating land for use for the creation of an

urban farm. Located on Yale Street, just a few blocks over from Roque & Mark’s office, the farm continues to thrive years later, providing fresh herbs and vegetables for UBH’s homeless pantry. The farm is consistently producing about 100 pounds of produce every two months thanks to the work of dedicated volunteers. This, however, is only the tip of the iceberg when it comes to the work that UBH does to serve the local homeless population.

UBH offers a variety of services, most notably their crisis and transitional housing opportunities. These spaces provide interim housing for families in need and allow them to receive a variety of other services. These include financial counseling, case management, training and employment, housing search and placement, on-site mental and physical health support services, and other wellness programs. Families are also provided household supplies like towels and dishes to get them started once they transition into their more permanent living situations. Beyond these extensive services, UBH also hosts an annual fundraising event: the Home Run For Kids.

This Spring, Upward Bound House hosts its twelfth annual Home Run For Kids. This event is a Brentwood community fundraiser 5K and “Kiddie K” in West Los Angeles. The event draws community members of every age to participate and includes an expo area filled with fun & games, a bounce house, and more. Last year, Roque & Mark helped sponsor the event raising over $3,400 due to generous donations from clients, friends, and Roque & Mark staff. 100% of donations UBH receives at this event go towards their mission to end family homelessness. Experience a fantastic morning of exercise, community, and fun, all while creating a positive impact.
