Santa Monica Helping Hub: Neighbors Helping Neighbors

Santa Monica has always been defined by its sense of community. Whether responding to moments of celebration or times of crisis, neighbors have a long history of showing up for one another. That’s why we’re excited to spotlight organizations making a real difference here at home, like Santa Monica Helping Hub.

When devastating wildfires swept through Pacific Palisades, Malibu, and Altadena last year, they left more than damaged homes in their wake—they upended entire communities. In the midst of that uncertainty, a group of women from Santa Monica’s local surf community came together with a simple goal: help their neighbors however they could.

What started as an emergency response quickly grew into something much bigger. Drawing on years of friendships, local partnerships, and volunteer networks, these surfers transformed a grassroots effort into a regional relief hub almost overnight. On its very first day, hundreds of residents arrived with donations of clothing, food, toiletries, and other essentials. Volunteers pitched in to organize supplies and welcome displaced families with kindness and compassion. In just a matter of hours, the Hub became a place where people could find comfort, connection, and hope.

The Helping Hub also served as an essential support center for first responders and National Guard personnel working near the front lines of the fires. Volunteers coordinated requested supplies and delivered items directly to emergency crews, making sure those protecting local neighborhoods had the resources they needed to keep going.

Today, Santa Monica Helping Hub continues to bring together volunteers, local organizations, businesses, and residents to respond wherever help is needed. Its mission has also expanded to include environmental recovery, recognizing the lasting impact wildfire debris and toxic ash have on the beaches and ocean that are such an important part of life in Santa Monica. Through cleanup efforts and environmental stewardship, the organization is helping care for both the people and places that make Southern California so special.

At Roque & Mark, we’re proud to celebrate and support organizations like Santa Monica Helping Hub. Their story is a reminder that a community isn’t defined by the challenges it faces, but by the people who step up when it matters most. We’re grateful to the volunteers, donors, and leaders who continue to make a difference, and we’re honored to shine a light on the work they’re doing every day.
