On April 26, 2026, Brentwood’s streets were once again transformed into a racecourse. Upward Bound House’s 13th Annual Home Run for Kids brought together families and neighbors for a morning defined not just by miles logged, but by impact made.
From the start line at San Vicente and Darlington, participants of all ages gathered with a shared purpose: to support families working toward stable housing and brighter futures. The energy was immediate and contagious. Kids lined up alongside parents, and first-time runners found their place beside seasoned participants. The event was less about pace and more about participation, designed so that anyone can take part. Whether running, walking, or supporting from the sidelines, it’s a community-driven effort where everyone helps to make an impact.
Roque & Mark’s partnership with Upward Bound House goes back years, beginning with our donation of land on Yale Street to establish an urban farm just a few blocks from our office. Today, that farm continues to grow fresh produce for families in need and serves as a tangible example of what sustained community partnership can achieve. Seeing that same spirit show up on race day, year after year, reinforces our commitment to this cause.
Reflecting on the event, Roque & Mark Co-President, Zina Markevicius, shared, “Home Run for Kids is a powerful reminder that real change happens when a community shows up together. Running alongside other supporters makes the mission feel immediate and personal.”
Home Run for Kids continues to evolve, but its core remains the same: community in action. This year’s event featured a 5K run/walk, a Kiddie K for younger participants, and a lively event space filled with music, activities, and post-race celebrations.
Beyond the event itself, the impact is significant. Upward Bound House, founded in 1991, has helped thousands of families transition out of homelessness and into permanent housing. Their approach includes providing shelter, as well as food, financial guidance, career support, and stability at no cost to families. Events like Home Run for Kids are essential in sustaining these services and expanding their reach.
Supporting Upward Bound House is an ongoing commitment rooted in Roque & Mark’s connection to the community. From our longstanding partnership with the charity, we’ve seen firsthand how consistent support can create meaningful, lasting change for families. Events like Home Run for Kids are a powerful reminder that progress happens when people come together with purpose.
If you couldn’t be a part of the event, there’s still an opportunity to contribute. Donations directly support Upward Bound House’s work to provide housing, resources, and long-term stability for families in need. You can learn more or make a contribution by visiting their Home Run for Kids webpage.
