Roque & Mark Celebrates Another Year of Partnership with Upward Bound House
Seven years ago, Roque & Mark donated a plot of land for use to Upward Bound House (UBH), just around the corner from our office on Yale Street. That land went on to become the Urban Farm, which continues to provide fresh produce for families in UBH’s programs and offers a welcoming space for families to spend time and connect. What started as a simple opportunity to give back has become a lasting part of our relationship with an organization whose work continues to make a meaningful difference for families across Santa Monica and Los Angeles.
Since then, our partnership with UBH has continued to grow, and we are proud to look back on another year of supporting its work. The numbers only tell part of the story. In its most recent annual report, Upward Bound House shared that 281 families moved into permanent housing, providing 1,079 children with a place to call home. UBH also helped 133 adults increase their income through employment, while 91% of families remained housed one year after moving into permanent housing. Behind each of those numbers is a family with a little more stability, security, and opportunity for the future.
That work was reflected in events and programs throughout the year, too. The second annual Angel Awards Chef Gala brought nearly 250 business leaders, philanthropists, elected officials, and community partners together at Santa Monica’s Proper Hotel. The sold-out event featured ten celebrated Los Angeles chefs and helped raise support for UBH’s continued work with families experiencing homelessness.
Programs like Adopt A Family also gave people across the community a chance to make a direct difference. Donors, businesses, schools, and volunteers helped provide personalized gifts, household essentials, and holiday meals for families in UBH’s programs, bringing a little extra joy and comfort to families during the holiday season.
We are grateful to continue being part of UBH’s work and to support the families it serves. We look forward to seeing what the next year brings and to continuing our partnership with Upward Bound House as it works toward a future where every family has the opportunity to find stability and thrive.
