Success on Darlington and San Vicente: Recapping Home Run for Kids 2024
On November 17, 2024, Upward Bound House hosted its annual Home Run for Kids event, drawing more than 1,200 runners and walkers united in their commitment to ending family homelessness in Los Angeles and Santa Monica. The event featured a 5K run/walk, a “Kiddie K” race, and a vibrant expo area filled with games and activities for all ages.
The day kicked off with a heartfelt rendition of the National Anthem by the Carlthorp Children’s Choir, followed by upbeat tunes from a live DJ, creating an exciting atmosphere. Thanks to the support of attendees and participants, the event raised crucial funds for Upward Bound House’s mission, ensuring that the organization can continue its work in the community.
Roque & Mark have been long-time supporters of Upward Bound House. Seven years ago, we donated land for use on Yale Street, just a few blocks from our office, to help establish an urban farm. The farm has since thrived, providing fresh herbs and vegetables for the organization’s homeless pantry. This partnership was recently highlighted in Upward Bound House’s annual report, underscoring the positive impact our ongoing collaboration has had on families in need.
Founded in 1991, Upward Bound House has been dedicated to supporting unhoused families with children in Los Angeles and Santa Monica. Through a combination of housing, advocacy, and essential services, the organization helps these families transition into permanent homes and maintain long-term stability. Over the years, thousands of families have benefited from the organization’s comprehensive support, which includes food, financial counseling, career assistance, and a safe place to stay—all provided at no cost.
Fundraising events like Home Run for Kids are essential to sustaining Upward Bound House’s ability to provide these vital services. For more information or to donate, visit their website at upwardboundhouse.org.
